Most rubbish removals in Sydney work the same way: a crew turns up with a truck, carries everything out from wherever it is (garage, backyard, granny flat, the spare room nobody goes into), loads it and drives off. You don't need to drag anything to the kerb or hire a trailer. The price usually depends on how much space your rubbish takes up in the truck, how heavy it is, and how hard it is to get to.
What a rubbish removal crew will usually take
- Household junk: boxes, old toys, broken furniture, bikes, exercise gear
- Furniture and mattresses (see furniture & mattress removal)
- Green waste: branches, palm fronds, lawn clippings and garden prunings (see green waste removal)
- Renovation leftovers like timber, tiles, plasterboard offcuts and old fittings (see builders' waste)
- Whitegoods and e-waste, which many crews take to recyclers
Most operators won't take liquid chemicals, paint, gas bottles or car batteries in a general load. Those go to a free Community Recycling Centre or a Household Chemical CleanOut instead.
How rubbish removal is priced
Expect the crew to price by volume (a fraction of the truck), with extra for heavy material like soil, concrete or bricks, and sometimes for difficult access such as steep driveways or upstairs units. A few clear photos make the quote far more accurate, so have some ready when they call. Always confirm the price before loading starts.
Is it worth paying for, or should I wait for council?
Most Sydney councils run a bulky or kerbside clean-up, and it's worth using when you can wait and the items are allowed. A paid crew makes sense when you need it gone quickly, when the job is bigger than council's limits, when items aren't accepted on the kerb (like building materials), or when you simply don't want to carry it all out yourself. No asbestos, sorry. We don't arrange asbestos removal. In NSW, any friable asbestos and more than 10mΒ² of bonded asbestos must be removed by a licensed asbestos removalist. If you suspect asbestos (common in homes built or renovated before 1990), leave it alone and get it tested.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to put the rubbish on the kerb?
No. A rubbish removal crew normally collects from wherever it is on the property, as long as they can safely reach it. Tell them about stairs or tight access when they call.
How much does rubbish removal cost in Sydney?
It depends mostly on volume, weight and access. A few bulky items costs far less than a full truck of renovation waste. The crew will give you a price before any loading starts.
Do you take asbestos?
No. We don't arrange asbestos removal. In NSW it needs a licensed asbestos removalist for any friable asbestos and for more than 10 square metres of bonded asbestos.
